Backstage notes from the SS26 shoots

Makeup brushes and kit laid out backstage before an SS26 shoot

Eleven days, five covers, one van. The SS26 editorial season compressed our spring into a fortnight of 5am call times — and produced the strongest set of covers this agency has placed in a single season.

Day one set the tone: Isadora Venn's Muse cover on the Atlantic coast, shot between weather fronts with no retouch brief. Day four belonged to Mathilde Aubert's twenty-page Velours fabrics story, the longest feature the title had commissioned all year.

Great covers are made in the schedule — the glamour is just what survives the call sheet.

Between the covers came the unglamorous middle: night shoots in unheated studios, a borrowed horsebox, three rescheduled flights, and a booker who learned to steam a gown in a moving car.

Night editorial frame glowing under city lights

The season's lesson, filed for next spring: book the weather days first and the studio days around them, feed everyone before noon, and never schedule two night shoots back to back — however tempting the location.
